A GOOD entrepreneur is one “who will strive to better their discipline, their community and their personal skills in an enterprising way and for the betterment of the wider world”.

That definition guides Mike Leigh Cooper, of The Creative Condition, a media, advertising and PR company based in Shambles, York.

Mike is also hoping it will guide the judges when considering him for the Business Personality Of The Year and Young Entrepreneur Of The Year titles in The Press Business Awards 2010.

Local organisations he has recently worked with include City of York Council, Pilot Theatre, Enterprise UK, York Council for Voluntary Service, Space 109 and Accessible Arts & Media.

One of Mike’s most recent projects is with Yortime, the council-run website portal for community groups. His role is to develop a city-wide free service called Yortime Web Surgeries.

It came about through an Explore Media project, a six-month community media and digital literacy programme for York, which involved Mike delivering free workshops and helping community groups to use web technologies to promote not-for-profit and charity groups.

Later this summer he will be working with York St John University to develop an online resource to help students find work in a difficult economy, particularly after they have graduated.
