A BUSINESS recognised for its environmentally friendly public loo is now hoping to add to its list of awards.

Clean Energy (Yorkshire), based in Harrogate, is going for Think Green Business Of The Year and Small Business Of The Year in The Press Business Awards 2011.

The business was started in 2009 by husband and wife team Spencer and Tamsin Cassidy, and supplies and installs renewable energy generating systems for domestic, commercial and communal buildings across Yorkshire.

Over the past two years, it has grown from two people to 21 employees, and moved into new corporate headquarters and training centre at Pannal Business Park earlier this year.

Spencer said it is now looking to expand outside Yorkshire, eyeing opportunities in Greater Manchester and Lancashire. He predicts the business will grow at a rate of 300 per cent per year for the next three years.

“The renewable energy sector is a growing industry, and Clean Energy Yorkshire is well placed to exploit this surge in property owners looking to make their buildings greener. It has the experience, the products and, equally important, a reputation for reliability, honesty and integrity,” he said.

The company’s solar-powered public toilets in Knaresborough were recognised by the British Toilet Association, which named them Best Eco Friendly Facilities in the Loo of the Year Awards. The firm also won best public building installation title in this year’s Yorkshire and the Humber Microgeneration Partnership Awards.
