Tadcaster-based milliner Joy, now 67, has entered Small Business Of The Year and Retailer Of The Year after expanding her business Simply Devine to now feature a fashion clothing range.

Joy’s daughter, Liz, has been with her all along, and this year is also entering her business, Liz Wright Properties, in Women in Enterprise and Family Business Of The Year, which enabled her to help her mother set up in business in 2004.

Liz Wright Properties now owns a £1.5 million property portfolio, including 12 properties in and around Tadcaster, as well as land on the Dodecanese in Greece.

Liz originally provided Joy with the newly developed shop in Tadcaster in order to set up Simply Devine, after Joy had studied millinery under Peter Kingston Youel at Leeds College of Art and Design.

The business has recently expanded with a range of fashion dresses currently being manufactured in Nepal and India, as well as offering jewellery, pashminas and other accessories and its Wedding Box bridal services, including tiaras, favours, wedding stationery and photography.
