YDL, an independent carrier for all types of freight and the largest independent parcel and pallet carrier in North Yorkshire, is also competing for the title of Large Business Of The Year at The Press Business Awards 2011.
YDL, based at Barton Hill, Whitwell, was established in 1982 and was bought out by its management in 2001 before merging with Classic Carriers in 2007.
The business, which employs 30 people, is part of nationwide networks, APC Overnight parcel network and TPN pallet network to offer reliable national coverage.
David Lawson, managing director, said the business is also committed to providing a green service, with deliveries in York city centre undertaken by bike by its distribution partner Greenlink.
He said: “Where possible bio-diesel is used in all our vehicles, which is a new fleet – again maximising low emission technology and also eco trailers.”
Training is also high on the agenda, and paid off last winter when snow brought many other carriers to a halt in North Yorkshire.
David said: “We are proud of our excellent customer retention record and our steady increase in turnover and sustained profits during a recession period.
“We are committed to continuing our expansion by having increased our sales force and we are looking at many new ventures which will enhance our existing services.”
