OPPORTUNITIES abound at a York film company which is diversifying into new markets.
Orillo Productions, a film company set up by graduates, was already on to a winner with prestigious contracts from the likes of fashion brand Jack Wills, which has taken the company all over the world.
The team has also succeeded at causing a stir with guerilla marketing tactics in the form of its pop-up cinema events. The first held in the Museum Gardens last summer was a sunny Sunday sell-out, and now Orillo has many more pop-up events in the pipeline.
The business is hoping its efforts will also be rewarded at The Press Business Awards 2012, where it is going for Small Business Of The Year and Growth Business Of The Year.
Kate Frater, events co-ordinator, said: “Eighteen months ago, if asked, we could not even begin to imagine the huge success that we have reached to date; the fast pace, vast recognition and huge support we have already gained in such little time has only inspired us to push further, strive for new and innovative expansions in a variety of areas, and to form a strong presence within not only Yorkshire, but across the country.”
The video production company is about to move out of the Phoenix Centre into new offices at The Old Chapel, just outside the city walls, which it is currently fitting out and will share with another creative business it will be collaborating with.
The company has spread its name through selling t-shirts as tickets to its pop-up events and intends to go further, even selling its own branded vodka on pop-up bars at its own and other people’s events. Kate said: “We have been able to add two new cameramen to the team as well as two event developers who will focus on the Orillo’s sister companies Orillo Cinemas and Orillo Vodka, which is an exciting new expansion for the company.
“We feel this is a totally new concept for Orillo and can only open new and exciting doors leading us to further expansions and innovative developments.”
