A new business which showcases Yorkshire’s artisan food producers has received investment from a UK entrepreneur.
Deluxebite, formally known as FoodeeBox, was set up in September 2012 by a York couple, Jason Brown and Angela Parsons.
The company delivers food boxes on a monthly subscription, discovering on behalf of its customers gourmet artisan producers.
The business also donates the equivalent of a meal to the Trussell Trust, which provides emergency foodbanks for people in crisis, for every box bought by a member.
Bora Kizil, the former head of monthly beauty box subscription service Glossybox, has invested an undisclosed sum in the enterprise. He has also become the new chief executive of the business and a member of the board of directors.
Mr Kizil’s investment follows Deluxebite’s acquisition of rival monthly subscription service LarderBox in December 2012.
Mr Brown said: “I am delighted that Bora is coming on board. He brings with him an immense knowledge of subscription ecommerce, and his ability to rapidly develop and expand a business will allow us to compete more aggressively.
“Bora has been advising the company since we acquired LarderBox and his input into the company has been immense, and we know that with him onboard Deluxebite is on a firm footing.”
The appointment of Mr Kizil also signals the company’s first major rebrand since the service launched in September.
Mr Brown said: “We feel that the new name better reflects the values of our service and the nature of our customers.”
Mr Kizil said: “What Jason has achieved in such a small amount of time bootstrapping the company is amazing.
“There is no other subscription service in the UK with such passion and dedication, both in terms of delivering a great product, but also supporting those in need through donating meals to foodbanks in the UK.”
