ARCHITECTURAL metalworkers Chris Topp and Co have replaced special wrought-iron panels as part of a multimillion-pound transformation of Redcar Promenade.
The company has replaced 23 panels which the Tholthorpe-based company designed as part of a competition by blacksmiths in 1995 for a lively railing design to brighten up the north end of the promenade.
The panels are based on the concept of the seaside postcard and represent local scenes, with each including a letter which when taken in order form a riddle with a hidden clue.
Chris Topp said: “The contract in 1995 for the original postcards was a turning point for Chris Topp & Co, as it was one of our first major public art commissions and called upon the skills of several local artists and blacksmith.
“It was a pleasure after all these years to be asked to renew our association with the panels and refurbish them as part of the transformation of Redcar seafront.”
