THE world’s offshore and shipping markets are set to be further serviced by a Rillington manufacturer following official approval of its products.

Ellis, which manufactures cable cleats for a range of global industries, has received Type Approval for two of its cleats from DNV GL.

DNV GL is the world’s leading ship and offshore classification society and a leader of independent assurance and expert advisory services for the sector.

Bosses at Ellis say the approval will help the firm increase its presence in a market where it has already achieved orders for projects around the world.

Andy Booth, technical director of Ellis, said: “DNV GL Type Approval is one of the most commonly requested product certifications in any of the geographical or industry markets, which we operate in.

“Although we already have a considerable presence in the offshore and shipping market, this approval will open a great deal of new doors and enable us to firmly establish our position as market leader.”

In 2012 Ellis won an order to supply the first of two new oil platforms being built for use in the North Sea’s Golden Eagle area development.

The firm’s cable cleats are designed and manufactured to secure electrical cables in a manner that can withstand forces generated by the cables.

Last year Ellis’ cleats were specified for use on the Areva European Pressurised Reactor (EPR) nuclear power plant being built in the Guangdong province of China, and on the infrastructure upgrade of the Sydney rail network in Australia.

Ellis’ DNV GL approval complies with DNV’s rule for classification of ships, high speed and light craft and its offshore standards, and covers the fixing of cables on-board mobile offshore units and ships.
