TWO local firms have been chosen to carry out a sensitive facelift at Bettys York Café Tea Rooms in St Helen’s Square.
The work includes cleaning stonework, window painting and updating the signage, with temporary scaffolding around the building incorporating a wrap of protective sheeting to safeguard the workforce and passing pedestrians.
Recognising the significance of protecting and preserving the iconic façade of the café, local specialist scaffolding company SAY Scaffolding was selected for the job.
With a responsibility for the heritage of the building and public safety, SAY Scaffolding turned to Easingwold-based Industrial Textiles and Plastics (ITP) for the scaffold sheeting. With 25 years’ experience in the protective and containment sheeting industry, ITP supplied their Powerclad Flame Retardant Vented Sheeting for the job.
The sheeting is a closely woven mesh to provide good ventilation, along with effective weather protection. Marc van der Voort, managing director at ITP, said: “Our flame-retardant vented sheeting offers the benefits of an improved working environment and site safety.
“The sheeting was easy to fasten to the scaffold structure as a result of the reinforced hems. Its performance is not compromised in low-temperatures and allowed the project to run to schedule.”
Bettys is continuing to operate as usual during the work, which is due to be completed next month.
