A CARAVAN park near York has won a national award for protecting and enhancing the natural environment.
Conservationist David Bellamy has named Weir Caravan Park at Stamford Bridge one of the UK’s greenest places to take a break and awarded it a David Bellamy Conservation Award.
Weir Caravan Park is set on a natural island in the River Derwent, and provides holiday homes for hire or to purchase and has facilities for touring caravans plus a limited number of pitches for tents.
Weir Caravan Park has attained a Gold Standard after being judged on ecological management (what is done to help wildlife); sustainability (conservation of resources and reduction of waste); and good neighbourliness (support for the local community and economy).
Owners of the caravan park, David and Christine Hind said they were delighted their efforts had been recognised nationally.
