A CONSTRUCTION firm has had to extend its York's offices twice after just two years in the city as the business has grown from two staff to a team of 20.
Since moving to York in 2012 Lindum has expanded its Blossom Street accommodation in light of a growing order book, which will see the business contribute £7 million to the local economy this financial year.
Lindum has attributed much of its growth in York to connections with York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, including winning the contract for the York Racecourse development after gaining a direct introduction to racecourse directors through head of the Chamber Susie Cawood.
The contracts, which have contributed £10 million to Lindum York’s growth, include building new stables, a weighing building for jockeys, and the refurbishment of the Moët & Chandon Bar and the surviving element of the 1763 grandstand by John Carr.
Lindum York director, Neil Coote, said: "When we opened, we realised that, to be successful, we had to get to know the city and become part of the local community.
"That was not easy as York, like many other big cities, is parochial and businesses need to be engaged with the community to trade within it.
“As part of this, we joined York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce and we’ve probably attended every Chamber networking event since. This has been a major source of new client contacts."
In another order Lindum has completed a £4.5 million contract at Clifton Moor to construct and refurbish retail units for British Land, including premises for KFC, Pets at Home, DFS, Oakwood Furniture and Wren Living York.
This summer Lindum, which has its headquarters in Lincoln, also completed the renovation of The Bonding Warehouse on the River Ouse for developer Grantside which relocated there in June.
The renovation created 11,700 sq ft of offices and four penthouse apartments Head of York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce Susie Cawood, said: "We are pleased to continue our long-standing achievement of having many of York and North Yorkshire’s key business leaders and influencers among our members which makes our networking events, and introductions, particularly beneficial.
"We are pleased that this has worked so well in helping Lindum’s new York office establish itself in the city."
