YORK MP Hugh Bayley has praised a successful small businessman, as he visited sites to mark Small Business Saturday.
The York Central MP was at Mike Townend Motors near Layerthorpe, a firm he has used for more than 20 years, to encourage people to support small businesses in their community.
He said: “Mike Townend has serviced and repaired my cars for 20 years. They have all been second hand vehicles but he has kept them running and reliable. I currently have a 12-year-old Renault but it drives like new. He is skilled, efficient and charges fair prices – a really good example of service from a small York business.”
Mechanic and business owner Mike Townend added: "One of the advantages the small business has over the larger one is the ability to get to know their customers and their specific needs, thus being better placed to advise about products or services best suited to them."
Events and promotions are being held all over the country to mark Small Business Saturday today, and last year the day is said to have brought £500 million in for small firms in the UK.
