THE Jug And Bottle, an independent specialist delicatessen and off-licence, at Bubwith, near Selby, has been named as Yorkshire and Humberside's Best Shop in a national food award.
The honour was bestowed by The Observer's Food Monthly magazine and it comes at a time of great change for the shop and its owners.
In the five years since Louise and Doug Smith revived the once-closed The Jug And Bottle they have seen huge growth in the business. The couple are planning to relocate to converted premises in the old Victorian school in the village's Main Street later this year.
The new premises will have off-street parking and Louise plans on introducing some new ranges of stock.
The former classroom to the rear of the shop is being converted into a house for the couple.
Louise said: "We were so excited and amazed to win such an award. It was quite unexpected."
