HARROGATE Spa Water, the company that has revived the oldest spa water in the country, is changing its name.

Following the recent launch of its second bottled water brand, Thirsty Planet, the company is taking on the name Waterbrands Ltd.

Paul Martin, managing director, said: "Having the same name for the company and a brand could get confusing at times. Now that we have a second brand and plans for further product launches, it seemed appropriate to find a name that reflects the company's achievements and objectives."

There will be no change to the Harrogate Spa Water range of bottled water.

He said: "It is crucial to the success of the company. We are incredibly proud of being able to use the name and to promote the town throughout the UK as the water gains wider distribution in supermarkets, restaurants, bars, trains and planes, and we appreciate the support that the people of Harrogate give us."

Formed in 2002, Harrogate Spa Water is a top ten brand in the UK bottled water market, and at the end of 2006 reported year-on-year volume sales up by a massive 30 per cent.

Its new brand, Thirsty Planet, is a charity water which donates 50p for every multipack sold to Pump Aid, a charity that installs water pumps in impoverished rural communities in Africa.

Fifty pence gives a person clean water for life and the partnership is aiming to reach ten million people by the year 2015. Thirsty Planet has listings with most major supermarkets including Asda, Morrisons, Tesco, Waitrose, the Co-op and Booths.
