OWNERS of furnished holiday letting accommodation in York and North Yorkshire face “more red tape and confusion”, it has been claimed.
The warning comes from John Butler, president of York Society of Chartered Accountants.
He says that just as more visitors come to the region, its holiday let landlords face increased bureaucracy and baffling directives to wade through when special tax rules end on Tuesday.
The beneficial rules for UK furnished holiday lets (FHLs), are being axed as they are seen as incompatible with European law.
Mr Butler accused the government of underestimating the number of businesses that would be affected by the abolition of the rule.
