A NEW leader of Newsquest (York) publishers of The Press took up his post today.

Miller Hogg, 39, the former publisher/managing director of Newsquest's Scottish Magazines division, has been appointed publisher, based at The Press' office in Walmgate, York a city he describes as "beautiful and dynamic".

He joined the company in 2001, and became publishing marketing director of Newsquest (Herald & Times) Ltd and Scottish Media Group.

Mr Hogg succeeds Liz Page, who was made publisher at York after seven years as editor of the Evening Press, and left as managing director in January to become regional MD of a magazine publishing company.

He said: "When the opportunity became available to work in a beautiful and dynamic city such as York, I was instantly enthused by the opportunities that it presented.

"Having worked in such wonderful cities as Norwich, Cambridge, Stoke-on-Trent and Glasgow, I could see that York has a cross-section of all these cities rolled into one tourism, diversification, growing service industry and traditional skills, with its people at the heart of its success.

"I look forward to working with the team at The Press to continue to build its strong relationships with the business, civil and public communities it serves."

He and his wife, Carole, have moved to York. "The Press is a large local employer in the city and one that I look forward to leading. I hope that I can serve its staff and its communities proudly," he said.

David Coates, regional managing director for Newsquest (North East) Ltd, said: "I am delighted that Miller is joining the company as he will bring a wealth of experience with him.

"I know that Miller is looking forward to living in this fantastic city. He will be working with a team of excellent people at The Press and I wish him and them every success for the future."
