ASDA, the Yorkshire supermarket chain, has bought all 193 Netto supermarkets in the UK for £778 million.
The acquisition of the Danish discount grocery group’s UK stores, allows Asda, owned by US giant Walmart, to step into the small supermarket sector at a stroke.
Given the regulatory go-ahead from the Office of Fair Trading, it means that all Netto stores, including branches at Layerthorpe and Clifton Moor, will be rebranded, with Asda promising to double the size of staff in most Nettos.
