YORK-based GO-SIM is continuing its expansion plans by acquiring a United States business, a month after acquiring a UK concern.

The international prepay SIM card business bought Oneroam Communications of Miami, Florida, for an undisclosed sum, as part of plans to become the number one supplier of prepaid SIM cards in the world.

It is expected to be followed by more acquisitions this year.

David Agar, GO-SIM’s chief executive, said: “We’ve also had some interesting calls from other competitors, and I hope to be able to announce more exciting news soon.

“Americans are increasingly becoming aware of the high cost of roaming. This latest acquisition provides a further boost to GO-SIM’s US customer base and will accelerate the company’s ambitious strategy for growth in the States.”

Go-Sim, which employs six people at its headquarters at York Business Park, is on target to increase turnover to more than £1 million this year. Mr Agar said the company’s expansion was not going to create new jobs immediately.

“Because of the way that we have structured our business and the resources and headcount we have in place, we can easily accommodate this and quite a lot more growth without necessarily taking on a lot of additional people.

“What it does mean is that we’re securing the future of the company and the people who are already here.”

The company made its new purchase after buying Oneroam UK, based in Hampshire, in April.

Mr Agar said he had been trying to buy Oneroam in the UK for two years, but the owners had not wanted to sell until there was a change of management about six months ago.

Go-Sim is also targeting organic growth through the growth of affiliate partnerships, including a deal with Thomas Cook to offer the product to their customers, which is being extended from an 81-branch pilot to 300 branches from June.
