THE PRIVATE sector in Yorkshire and Humber is expanding, according to research commissioned by Yorkshire Forward.
The Yorkshire and Humber PMI, a survey of businesses in the manufacturing and service sectors, showed activity and new business continued to rise in June.
Manufacturers in particular noted solid gains in orders from abroad.
A number of companies also took on extra staff for second time in three months.
Costs are still on the rise, however, especially in chemicals, metals, oil and plastics, the survey, carried out by Markit, said.
Patrick Bowes, chief economist at Yorkshire Forward, said: “Whilst the overall activity index fell in the month the expansion in new orders and the improvement in employer hiring clearly shows the region’s private sector businesses remain confident.”
