A NEW facilities management company has arisen in Harrogate in the wake of ill-fated Operon.
Operon, which began in Harrogate in 1993, employed at its height 1,200 staff. Then came involvement from Icelandic shareholders.
The company reeled following the crash of Icelandic banks in 2007, and the business finally went into administration. Now Martin Corbett, Operon’s former managing director, has joined forces with Derby-based housing provider Derwent Living to set up its new office in Hornbeam Park, Harrogate.
He said: “By Christmas we are projecting that we will have more than 150 staff on sites throughout the country, with about ten people in Harrogate.
“A lot of former Operon employees are joining me, which is a tribute to the spirit of Operon’s workforce and its highly personalised service.”
