THE newly revamped Sainsbury’s supermarket at Monks Cross opened its doors to its first customers yesterday.
The new-look store was opened by Anne Stamp from the disabled children’s charity SNAPPY, and the supermarket’s oldest employee, 86-year-old shop floor assistant Gerry Wood.
Anne was there with 12 colleagues who, fittingly, were at the original opening of the supermarket 19 years ago. The charity has received £3,000 from the supermarket in the past year after being chosen as the store’s charity partner.
Store manager Paul Calvert said: “We’ve had nothing but positive feedback and the café upstairs has taken off like a rocket.”
