WYG GROUP has sold its rail consultancy division WYG Engineering, which has a branch in York, to national contractor Amey.
Leeds-based WYG Group, formerly White Young Green, restructured last year after being hit by the downturn in the construction market and was rescued in a debt-for-equity deal in which its banks took control of 60 per cent of the business.
A spokesperson for Amey said the company was taking on 50 rail professionals from WYG’s York office, which is based on Tanner Row.
“We have also taken on the lease on the York office which has ensured a seamless transfer.”
Paul Hamer, chief executive officer of WYG Group, said: “Amey has identified a synergy between its business aspirations and our rail profile and capabilities. Both Amey and WYG believe the opportunity to integrate our rail team into the wider Amey business is best for all parties including our respective clients.”
