WHOLESALER and retailer Shared Earth of York has become the UK distributor for the world’s first Fairtrade photographic greetings cards, the concept of Netherlands-based importer Fairmail Cards.
The photographers – all teenagers from the slums of Peru and India – receive 50 per cent of the profits from the initial sale of every card.
They also receive free medical insurance, help with their education and photography training.
Jeremy Piercy, managing director of Shared Earth, said: “Some of these kids are only 14 or 15 and it’s a fantastic start in life for them.”
