Aviva’S York operations will be providing the company’s life protection insurance products to bank Santander in the UK.

The exclusive five-year agreement, which starts on June 2011, means Aviva will be the sole provider of life protection products, including life insurance, critical illness and income protection, will be sold by Santander which has 1,300 branches in the UK.

Angela Seymour-Jackson, distribution director from Aviva, said the agreement builds on a strong existing relationship with Santander under which it already provides home insurance and mortgage payment protection.

“We’re really excited about the potential of this deal. There is a protection gap in the UK market and a lot of customers don’t have sufficient protection.”

She said the business was not creating new jobs in York as a as a result of the deal.

“The life protection team in York will be responsible for managing this deal so it’s good news for them and a good reflection of the skills and quality of our staff,” she said.
