CHARTERED accountancy firm Garbutt & Elliott of York wants to help family businesses plan for the future.

The firm’s Family Business meeting, Getting The Next Generation Involved, will take place on November 24 at the Parsonage Hotel, Escrick, at 5.30pm for 6pm.

The meeting will focus on the importance of the family council and will be addressed by three members of the York-based Shepherd Family Council, including Jamie Shepherd and David Johnson. Mr Shepherd is a fifth generation family member of the Shepherd Group. He will tell the story of the Shepherd family from the 17th century to being one of the largest family businesses in the north of England.

David Johnson chairs the Shepherd Family Council and is an expert in family business development.

Craig Manson, head of the Family Business team at Garbutt & Elliott, said: “This event will introduce the concept of family agreements to the region’s family businesses and demonstrate, through the real-life experiences of the Shepherd Group, how they can really help both the business and the family develop with the same vision.”

Any family businesses wishing to attend the seminar should email Rebecca Green at rmgreen@garbutt-elliott.co.uk or phone 01904 464156.
