The Lord Mayor of York, Sue Galloway, flanked by staff, Stephanie Keenan, left, and Kiki Craggs at the opening of The Curry Box in St Sampson’s Square, York.
The concept was launched last year by four businessmen who opened up the first Curry Box next door to the Los Locos Mexican Restaurant.
They have now temporarily closed the Micklegate outlet to concentrate on a bigger version of the same thing.
The new outlet offers the public a choice of 11 varieties of fresh, pre-prepared curries with rice, microwave-heated in two minutes and served in a box at a standard price of £4.45.
The four partners are Greig McGill, Andrew Carr, Tony Moore and Garry Horwell.
Greig and Tony previously ran Walker Leisure, a family business that operated 15 bingo clubs in the UK which they sold in 2003 for £12 million.
