BOSSES beware – from February 1 the maximum employment tribunals will be able to award for unfair dismissal goes up from £76,700 to £80,400.
The reminder comes from David Scott, employment law solicitor at Minster Law of York, who is warning employers to refresh their employment policies now.
Mr Scott, who is a member of the executive committee of the Industrial Law Society, said more changes had been made on limits of compensation.
He said: “From February 1 the maximum compensation that an employment tribunal can award will increase from £65,300 to £68,400. “In addition, the maximum weekly wage limit that is used on redundancy and unfair dismissal calculation will increase from £380 to £400 per week.
“That means the maximum statutory redundancy payment increases to £12,000. Hence the total of £80,400,” Mr Scott explained.
