Teepee specialists PapaKåta and MKC Mike Kernall Catering have joined forces this Christmas and refused to give in to the cold weather, holding teepee-based parties at Escrick Park, near York. PapaKåta, which holds weddings, corporate events and parties across the country, and MKC Catering put on Christmas parties to show off the tents to the local community, businesses and future customers in freezing temperatures.

Operations manager of PapaKåta Alan Clayton said the team had overcome challenges to put on the parties. He said: “We have been so busy with the parties – the size of the events and how many people came.”

He said the teepees had smoke flaps in the roofs, allowing them to have fires that keep the teepees warm, as well as diesel-powered electric heaters.

“We didn’t have one complaint about it being cold, despite it being minus ten degrees. At 17 to 18 degrees inside the tents it felt tropical.”

But he said the teams had to deal with freezing diesel and rolled-up mats frozen into position, and the snow meant they had to re-lay the flooring. “Our guys working out there are cold,” he said.
