MARK Fenwick and his family, who own the Fenwick department stores, have been listed as the second richest family in the North East in the 2011 Sunday Times Rich List.
The family grew their wealth by £18 million in the past year, with £438 million in 2011, taking them from 164th place to 185th place on the list, which will be published tomorrow.
Fenwick has eight department stores, including one in York, and also owns Williams and Griffin and Bentalls.
Mark Fenwick also has a background in music, previously managing Roxy Music and T Rex. The North East list was topped by Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley, the North East’s only billionaire, at £1.268 billion.
