THE FOUNDER of York business Tissue Regenix won the top award for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Academia and Research, at the UK Research Council’s Women of Outstanding Achievement Awards.
Professor Eileen Ingham, board member and academic founder of the company, is a professor of medical immunology and director of the Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering at the University of Leeds.
Tissue Regenix was built on the commercialisation of research into regenerative medical devices from the University of Leeds and is now based at York Science Park.
Prof Ingham said: “I’m surprised and delighted to have been presented with this award. It’s a privilege to be able to spend my working life in activities that I truly enjoy and then be recognised for my work. During my career I have been supported by a number of entrepreneurial mentors and have worked with many outstanding scientists, engineers and clinicians. I hope that my work can be an inspiration to others too.”
