THIS group of young entrepreneurs from Pocklington have won a coveted business award.
Their firm, called POCKSYE, which designs, manufactures and retails silicon rubber wrist bands won the Humber region final of the Young Enterprise Company Programme Competition.
They triumphed over 21 other teams from schools across Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire to walk away with the top prize.
The team is made up of 14 lower sixth students from Pocklington School.
POCKSYE also won the Best East Riding of Yorkshire Company Award, the Information Technology Award, the Human Resources Award, Best Company Report and the Sales and Marketing Award at a ceremony held at Bridlington Spa on Friday.
The team will now represent the Humber region at the Young Enterprise Yorkshire and Humber final on June 15 at the Merchant Adventurers Hall in York.
The team worked with Hull City FC to develop a wrist band for fans of the club and was granted permission to sell their products at the stadium.
It also negotiated terms with a manufacturer in China and created a second design which featured the slogan “Yorkshire Born ‘n’ Bred”.
In all they achieved sales in excess of £1,100 and profit-after-tax of more than £500.
