Selby has lost out in its hopes to get Enterprise Zone status after the local enterprise partnership (LEP) decided to site its Enterprise Zone in Leeds.
Leeds City Region LEP was awarded an Enterprise Zone by the Government in the Budget and has been deciding where to locate it from four sites, including Selby’s Olympia Park development, Leeds Aire Valley, Bradford city centre and the Wakefield M62 corridor.
At a meeting last night, leaders at the Leeds City Region LEP decided the Leeds Aire Valley would be the site to benefit from the Enterprise Zone.
The Enterprise Zones will benefit from discounted business rates and speeded up planning procedures, which are designed to stimulate enterprise.
The Selby development had also been shortlisted by the York and North Yorkshire LEP (YNYLEP) as a site for a potential Enterprise Zone, but YNYLEP announced yesterday that it had chosen Scarborough Business Park over the Selby site.
YNYLEP has not already been awarded the Enterprise Zone and must now submit its bid for one at Scarborough Business Park to Government to be awarded one of the ten remaining Enterprise Zones yet to be designated.
