MORE than 4,000 people have signed a petition to protest over plans to build a Sainsbury’s supermarket in Wetherby.
If planning permission is granted, the supermarket would be built on the site of the Ramada Jarvis hotel at the edge of town.
Shopkeepers and residents are concerned the store would damage the economy of the town.
The petition has been handed to the supermarket, who claimed the development would be a financial benefit to the town, and would work with local businesses to improve footfall.
