CLINTON Cards has been sold to Lakeshore Lending Limited, a subsidiary of American Greetings Corporation.

The sale includes 397 stores, including York’s Coney Street and Monks Cross branches, Beverley, Harrogate, Scarborough Brunswick Pavilion, Scarborough Westborough and Northallerton, and is to preserve about 4,500 jobs.

The card business appointed administrators in May after its banks sold its loans of £35 million to American Greetings Corporation, which enforced the loan against the business, pushing it into administration.

Zolfo Cooper announced a nationwide store closure programme in May, with the loss of about 3,000 jobs, which includes Clinton Cards stores in Knaresborough, Bridlington, Ripon, Selby and York’s Birthdays store.
