Langleys, the York-based law firm, is advising timber frame builders Almond and Coates on the development of what is claimed to be the ultimate purpose-built, eco-friendly home.
The innovative timber structure in Eggborough, North Yorkshire, will feature a heat pump to extract geothermal energy from the ground. The property will use a wind turbine and solar tiles for generating electricity.
The property is to be the new home of Dr Russ Cross, who has engaged Almond & Coates Ltd to build the specialist environmentally friendly home for his retirement.
This type of home is thought to be new to the UK market. Langleys is advising Almond & Coates on all contractual elements of the project.
Sue Binns, of Langleys construction team, said: "The finished building is a very pleasant environment, and the large sections of timber used in the frame, makes the walls structurally stronger."
Dr Cross said: "The property, when complete, will be virtually self-sufficient, and any excess power created by the installations can be sold back to the power companies."
