MORE than 50 people have started their own business in the East Riding of Yorkshire Council area since the New Enterprise Allowance Scheme (NEA) was launched last August.
NEA is part of the Government’s back to work programme aimed at people who have been on the dole for more than six months and gives them intensive hands-on support and guidance from the council’s business services team.
Coun Jane Evison said: “I congratulate all those who have taken the plunge and started a business through the NEA and also the council’s business services team for their professional expertise in helping steer the scheme to such successful outcomes.”
Under the scheme, the council team hold workshops to prepare people for setting up their own business and advisers work with them for six months.
