AN historic York hotel has undergone a refurbishment ahead of a milestone anniversary next year.
Work has been completed transforming former conference rooms at Lady Anne Middleton’s on Skeldergate into nine luxury bedrooms.
The family-owned hotel in the heart of the city celebrates its 40th birthday next year and director Liz King said the new rooms had been completed to a very high standard, including luxury fittings and fixtures, toiletries, TV and DVD players.
She said: “Lady Anne Middleton’s is hoping for a bright future and continued success in developing the hotel.
“This is both a beautiful place to stay for guests visiting York and a place where York residents can enjoy a meal or drink in an attractive local setting.
“We continue to provide a personal service tailored to your needs for all types of events and meetings.”
The building started out life as a large town house built in the second half of the 18th century and from 1792 it was used for the sheriffs to entertain.
The house changed hands several times after this and In 1925 a carriageway was driven through it to give access to a rear yard, demolishing a service wing and destroying important rooms.
In 1998 the present owner removed the driveway and reinstated the rooms, plus extending the rear of the building and creating a conference suite.
