A HUGE shopping development planned for Leeds could see the city climb above Manchester in the UK retail league table, say developers.

The Trinity Leeds scheme is attracting big-name stores, according to the chief executive of Land Securities, the company behind the city-centre project.

Robert Noel said plans for Leeds Trinity were on track and when completed, the scheme would lift the city to third in the UK top ten of shopping destinations.

He said: “We announced at our results on May 16 that we were pretty well 70 per cent spoken for, so we’ve got 30 per cent to go and there will be more big names included in that.”

The centre is expected to open in March next year with the creation of 3,000 jobs.
