BUSINESSES can have their say on the future of development in York at a meeting of York Property Forum tomorrow.
Following the withdrawal of the city’s Local Development Framework, the forum, part of Leeds, York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, is holding a debate called “Planning for York’s Future – Where Next?”
Participants will put forward their views as to how the future economic development of the city should be shaped.
Susie Cawood, head of York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “In light of the recent announcement not to call in the decision on the Monks Cross planning application, and with City of York Council deciding to withdraw the Local Development Framework pending further required work, it is imperative that the business community engages in this opportunity to help formulate the future growth of the city.
“As a chamber we are fully supportive of development that generates jobs and growth, as indeed we are supportive of the council’s decision to withdraw the LDF on the basis that additional time and resources are needed to undertake the necessary work to get the development plan for York to a stage where it can be adopted formally. We must however ensure that the needs of business are catered for, and I would therefore urge members to make sure that their voice is heard.”
The debate, which is being held at the Royal York Hotel from 5pm to 7pm, will also hear from Peter Kay, chair of York Economic Partnership on the economic strategy for the city.
