ARTISAN cheesemaker Shepherd’s Purse has launched a new cheese to herald a new era of the business.

The Thirsk-based cheesemaker has launched a new blue-veined cheese called Harrogate Blue after the town that the latest family member to join the business, Caroline Bell, now calls home.

The continental-style soft blue cheese is the first cheese to be launched since founder Judy Bell became chairman of the business and handed the reins over to daughters Katie Matten and Caroline.

The business has also rebranded and redesigned its packaging, which will be rolled out across the whole range over the next six to nine months.

Katie has been cheesemaking for 15 years and Caroline returns to Shepherd’s Purse after five years at Apple, were she spent time in the retail and corporate divisions.

Caroline said: “I am excited to be back working with my sister to continue the passion, dedication and commitment that mum and the team have ingrained in to Shepherd’s Purse.
