Selby-BASED rugby league fan Katie Shaw has completed a dream work placement at Featherstone Rovers.

The 20-year-old sports therapy student at Teesside University worked alongside the Rovers physiotherapy staff during the Co-operative Championship campaign.

“I had a fantastic time and learned so much,” said Shaw, whose father, Andrew, is a former Featherstone player.

The placement was part of her three-year university course and saw Shaw assist the physios and trainers in looking after injured players with massage and rehabilitation.

The former Selby High School pupil travelled with the team to their agonising Championship Grand Final defeat by Halifax at Warrington.

During her stint, she also observed surgery being carried out by a top surgeon on a visit to Wales.

She said: “It was a fantastic experience being at the club. All the staff were so helpful and I learned lots.”
