APPRENTICESHIPS grew by 11.5 per cent in York in during the academic year 2011/12.
Figures released by the National Apprenticeship Service showed 1,660 apprentices started work in York during the year, while Yorkshire and Humber registered 64,200 starts.
Half a million apprentices started across England, an increase of 13.9 per cent on the preceding year.
