The number of hospitality jobs has increased by almost a fifth in the past year, with salaries also rising, according to a new report.

Some of the biggest increases have been for bar managers, head chefs and restaurant staff, said hospitality jobs site Caterer.com.

Almost 160,000 jobs were advertised on the site over the last year, including 45,000 in the past three months.

Neil Pattison, sales director of Caterer.com, said: "Once again, our data reveals ongoing positive trends in the industry, with the number of jobs advertised continuing to remain strong. What's really encouraging is the growth in share of higher salaries in this sector, and the increase in pay for entry-level roles."

Ufi Ibrahim, chief executive of the British Hospitality Association, said: "Hospitality and tourism now accounts for over 10% of the UK's workforce and is the fourth-largest employing industry in the UK, its growth significantly outpacing the rest of the economy.

"The sector can generate some 300,000 new jobs by 2020, as tourism remains at the heart of economic growth in the UK."
