PROFESSIONAL South London comedy scamp Barry Castagnola makes his long-awaited return to the Hyena Lounge Comedy Club in York when he plays the Bank Holiday Sunday Special this weekend.
“Barry has been performing a variety of comedy characters for new television shows The Secret Interview, Public Eye and Dom Joly’s primetime ITV show Fool Britannia,” says Hyena Lounge promoter Toby Clouston-Jones.
Castagnola has performed stand-up on The Comedy Store Live and The Stand Up Show and was a regular on Christian O’Connell’s Sunday Service and film quiz Popcorn, as well as appearing in Comedy Shuffle and Comedy Cuts.
“His lucid urban storytelling succeeds mainly because of his amiable everyman persona: slightly middle class, slightly streetwise, but hard to conclusively define,” says Toby. “It’s the eloquence of his tales, with their sharp, effective comic imagery, that nails the deal. He’s an assured raconteur with an easy-going, natural and upbeat style.”
Andre Vincent is the opening act and York’s adopted comedy son, Danny Deegan, hosts the 7.30pm show. Tickets are on sale online at hyenalounge.com and on the door from 7pm.
