IF ONLY George Egg had played The Other Side Comedy Club last weekend, then the headline could have read Easter Egg.

Never mind, he is here now, with his "good old variety act" in the Basement Bar of City Screen, York, on Sunday.

"He walks on stage with a huge suitcase chock full with props that he slowly works his way through in side-splitting fashion, " says Other Side promoter Toby Clouston-Jones.

"It's a refreshing change from the highly political and thoughtprovoking routines of many of today's stand-ups, instead harking back to the days of music hall and bringing delight to audiences all over the world.

"That's why he's been hailed as a Tommy Cooper of the 21st century."

Rob Rouse is on the bill too. He won the So You Think You're Funny competition in 1998 and shot to fame presenting Channel 4's The Friday Night Project and BBC 3's Comedy Shuffle.

"He can only be described as Tigger on speed, " says Toby.

"He's busy filming for the Paramount Comedy Channel at the moment and joins us on a very rare day off."

James Cook is the compere for Sunday's 8pm show.

Doors open at 7.30pm; tickets £8, concessions £7, on 0870 758 3219.
