ACCOUNTANCY is not usually a profession associated with mirth, but one man is on a mission to break the stereotype.

Ian Keable, Magical comedian and former accountant, appears at The Gate, Goole Arts Centre, tomorrow at 8pm in Conjuring Up Comedy, a one-man magic show with VAT.

"The VAT stands for Very Amusing Tricks, " says Ian, who has been an entertainer for 18 years since giving up his desk job.

"People find it intriguing that I used to be an accountant and then made such a radical career change to become a magician: which is what this show is about - a journey from ledger to legerdemain.

"The first one-man show I did was soon after I had given up the day job. The reception was so good, I decided to do a follow-up some 15 years later."

His shows have a humorously confessional presentation style.

"All the incidents I tell about myself are absolutely true, but I only tell those which are amusing, and many of those turn out to be disaster stories, " says Ian, a member of the Inner Magic Circle and British Magical Champion of Comedy.
