LAIDBACK Tony Law will be the antidote to this week's miserable weather when he plays The Other Side Comedy Club in the Basement Bar of City Screen, York, on Sunday evening.

"Like a rolling ball of fun with bits flying out of it, Tony's infectious comedy will leave you stranded in a field of hilarious ideas, " says promoter Toby Clouston-Jones.

"Half Canadian, half Trinidadian, he has been busy working hard on the circuit and his scorching jokes and incisive remarks have created a buzz for Tony as one of the most exciting new comedy propositions around."

A regular face at the Comedy Store and Jongleurs, he has established the Fringe comedy troupe The Dinks with Dan Antopolski and Craig Campbell and appeared on BBC1's The Stand Up Show, Meridian's House Of Fun and Channel 4's Does Doug Know? .

Joining Law, pictured right, on the 7.30pm bill will be Greg McHugh, a rising star on the Scottish comedy circuit with his intricately woven stories of everyday life. Born in Edinburgh, he studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow and made his stand-up debut in 2002.

In early 2006, McHugh created a character based on a camp tank commander, and subsequently a commission from Channel 4 for Funny Cuts on E4 came his way.

"Greg's material includes elements of popular culture, observational anecdotes and views on the world at large, yet he manages to keep it original, compelling and, more importantly, very, very funny, " says Toby.

Sunday's host will be York's very own Dan Willis.

Doors open at 7pm; tickets cost £8 on 0871 704 2054.
