LUCY Porter will play two Hyena Lounge Comedy Club gigs in the City Screen Basement bar in York this weekend as she builds up her preparations for her return to the Edinburgh Fringe.
Tomorrow she will be the headliner for the second in promoter Toby Clouston-Jones's newly launched series of Saturday night shows, joined on the 8pm bill by former solicitor Keith Farnan, two-time Scottish Comedian of The Year finalist Ray Bradshaw and host Jamie Sutherland.
On Sunday, Lucy will be sharing the 7.30pm bill with rising comedy hot-shot John Robins. Her new show, People Person, is a mixture of experimental psychology, social anthropology and stand-up comedy, wherein Lucy explores whether she is right to be a "people person", optimistic about human nature, or whether she ought to be more cynical.
"She’s reflected, researched, and watched a lot of daytime television, and now Lucy is ready to share her hilarious insights," says Toby. "John Robins, meanwhile, is one of the most exciting storytellers on the comedy circuit, and his new show, directed by comedian Russell Howard, recounts childhood innocence and adult shenanigans."
Doors open at 7.15pm tomorrow, 7pm on Sunday. Tickets can be booked online at hyenalounge.com
