YORK artist Emily Sutton is showing new work inspired by figureheads and naval art in the Full Fathom Five exhibition at Hornseys’ Gallery, Kirkgate, Ripon.
“I’ve had great fun doing some nautical subjects,” says Emily, who is one of five artists exhibiting at Daniel Hornsey’s gallery.
The others are Paul Bonner, from Cromer, whose response to the sea theme includes hand-made, decorated tiles; the folk-art-influened Jonny Hannah; Michael Kirkman, from York, with his delicate pencil studies, drawings and linocuts; and Ed Kluz, brought up in North Yorkshire and now living in Brighton, who is renowned for his detailed paintings and collages of architecture.
Gallery owner Daniel Hornsey says: ‘The sea has always had an attraction for artists, and I’ve always wanted to hold an exhibition in celebration of the nautical world. All five artists have their individual responses to the theme, and Full Fathom Five is one of the high tides of art in the North this year.”
Daniel has opened new rooms upstairs for this exhibition, which runs until Monday. All the works are for sale.
