THE corridors of York Hospital have been given a fresh look thanks to the loan of several nautical-themed painting by artists from the North Yorkshire coast.

The exhibition, items in which come from Staithes Gallery, near Whitby, depicts scenes from the region’s coast painted by artists from Staithes.

Gill Greaves, art officer for the hospital, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for people in York to be able to see the quality and variety of art inspired by Staithes and the surrounding area. The area has always been, and still is, a magnet for art and artists so we are very grateful to Staithes Gallery for sharing this with us.”

Al Milnes, owner of Staithes Gallery, said: “We’re delighted to be involved in bringing art to the hospital environment and hope people enjoy the art works on show.

"People can’t always get to the coast, so we though we would bring the seaside into the hospital. It’s also a fantastic opportunity for the artists to be seen by a wider audience.”
